Dear RCCC FamilyDear RCCC family,

I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to visit the Louisville Slugger factory and museum.  The unique aspect of our particular tour was that it was lead by the owner of the company, Jack Hillerich. Jack’s grandfather was Bud Hillerich who was an avid baseball fan and player who began making bats out of his father’s woodworking shop in 1880.

It was incredible to see the bat that was the actual template used to make Babe Ruth’s bats…not to mention the templates for Shoeless Joe Jackson, and Ty Cobb! The whole tour was amazing but what impressed me most was actually our host, Jack Hillerich. Jack’s enthusiasm for the business of making bats was contagious! He obviously cared deeply about his company and what they do, and loved sharing about it. It is inspiring to see someone so passionate about his or her business!

It occurred to me that if Jack Hillerich can be so excited about making bats, how much more should we in the church be excited about what we do? We get to help people meet Jesus! We get to see lives transformed by His amazing grace!  We get to help change the destiny of entire families for eternity!  There’s a mission to get excited about!

I think there is a special joy and enthusiasm that can only be gained when you share what you have. If you are lacking excitement in your faith, then share it!  Remember, it’s not just church, it’s The Church and Jesus said the gates of hell would not be able to stand against it. We have something great to share and that’s worth getting excited about!

Finding Joy in the Journey,

Pastor Sean

A Time for Every Purpose
The wise writer of Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament reminds us all that there’s a time for every purpose under heaven. In a refrain made popular by 1960’s rockers The Byrds, God made everything beautiful in its time: a time to be born, a time to die, a time to plant, a time to harvest, a time for every purpose under heaven. How to Study the Bible
The men God used to write the Bible described it as alive, God-breathed, and useful. The very best way to get a grasp on the Bible is to study it with spiritual friends who will dig and help you find the deeper truths in the Word. Here are 3 questions you can ask yourself and your friends about any passage to begin going deeper together.

What does it say? We often want to skip right past this step. When you’re looking at a verse or a passage, re-phrase it several different ways. Make sure that you have a good idea about what the passage is trying to say. Once you’ve answered that, you can ask yourself…

What does it mean? This is the step we want to skip to. Once we know what the scripture says, we can ask ourselves what it means. Here are some helpful questions to ask at this stage: 1) What did it mean to the original hearers? 2) What is the timeless principle it teaches? 3) What areas of my life does it make me think of?

What do I do? The truth of the word was intended to set you free. Once you know what it says, make a commitment to take an action step TODAY!

Answer these three questions and discuss them with 2 or 3 close friends, and then hold each other accountable to practice what you learn. You’ll see the Word and God’s grace come alive!

The massive response once again proved God’s love for His people and the benefactors will be the abused, abandoned and neglected children of Bexar County. Read more...

Women's Ministry Being Women of the Word
The Wednesday morning Women’s Bible Study has been something exciting to watch grow and develop over the past year. The Lord has brought together a multi-generational group of women to enjoy the challenge and excitement of studying God’s word together. Women’s Bible Study provides an environment of accountability and friendship and also allows women to share deeply about topics that they may not be comfortable sharing in a mixed group. Read more...

  Parenting Insights
Help your children build a strong, lasting friendship with Jesus:

1. Show your children how your relationship with God works. In age-appropriate words, talk to your children about times you’ve felt really close to God.

2. Model a prayer life for your children. Let your kids overhear your daily talks with God.  Also, discuss ways God has answered your prayers.

3.  Emphasize that the Bible is relevant. Apply a specific Bible message to a situation your child is going through. For example, if your child is afraid, explain that the Bible says God will never leave them.

4. Encourage your children to trust Jesus during tough times. Remind your children that their best friend, Jesus, has a plan for their lives.

The Edge

"The Edge"
Over the past six years, I have learned that everything a youth needs boils down
to Four F’s:

Family – to know you love guys love them
Friends – to laugh with, cry with, and complain to
Food – well, because apparently they all have hollow legs
Faith – to have and become all that God has for them

“THE EDGE” program for Wednesday Nights at River City rolls all four of these critical pieces into one.

Starting Wednesday, June 4, we are shaking up Wednesday Nights.  We are going to start at 6 and go ‘till 9:00. In between, we are packing it full of crazy fun, loud music, worship, and discussions about God’s heart for your student.  All students grades 6-12 are welcome.  We look forward to seeing you on “THE EDGE.”

Camp Real Camp 08Summer’s coming!!! You can almost feel the excitement in the air. Or maybe that’s your panic over trying to occupy your teenagers for three months!  Either way, we’ve got the solution. Real Life Student Ministries is planning HUGE things with our Real Camp ‘08, and we want your youth to be a part of it. We are excited to offer a twist this year.  Junior High will be having a specially-planned camp experience separate from the highschoolers! Our hope is that both groups will have the opportunity to hear directly from God about where they are in life and be able to discuss the unique challenges facing them in their world.

The cost of Real Camp ’06 is $190 per student, and you can pick up forms in the youth center, at the information center in the foyer of the main building, or online.

I am excited about this summer and about you being a part of it.  Thank you for trusting us with your students, for your prayers, and for the character that you have developed in your youth.  It is a privilege to serve your family!

Change Your World Building a Roof
Consuelo Mata is an amazing woman with a God-sized need. Despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease, Consuelo took in her four grandchildren rather than allowing Child Protective Services place them in foster care. Yet, her limited resources kept her from providing a sound roof over their heads. She’d tried once to hire a roofing company to replace the roof, but ended up the victim of a scam. God would have to supply what she needed. Read more...
